Josh Allen #41, JAX DE/EDR

bio:

Josh Allen is a defensive end for Jacksonville, drafted in the 1st round (#7 overall) out of Kentucky in the 2019 draft. He was a Unanimous All-American in 2018.

attributes:

A well-rounded, 3rd-year edge rusher with prototypical pass-rushing talent. He has excellent size and athleticism for his position. In addition, he has an elite College Prospect Score (CPS).

player grade:

He was graded as the #32 Edge Defender in the league in 2020, per PFF.com. Unfortunately, he didn’t take a major step forward in his 2nd-year, but this is likely due to a lingering knee issue that he played through for several games before landing on injured reserve.

injury:

Allen missed 8 games in 2020 due to a knee injury.

tackles:

His best year in terms of combined tackles occurred in his rookie year. He only started four games in 2019 and missed 8 games in 2020, so it’s reasonable to expect improved tackle output in 2021. However, his fantasy floor is in no way safe.

big plays:

Allen put up solid big play statistics in his rookie year (despite only starting four games) before an injury ruined 2020. Therefore, he has displayed a high ceiling.

contract:

He is playing on his rookie contract. Jacksonville has a fifth-year option, making him an unrestricted free agent in 2024 (Age 27).

summary:

Josh Allen is an elite pass-rushing talent. He proved his upside as a rookie before dealing with injuries and playing for a bad team in 2020. He could see many double teams in 2021 because there aren’t any other major threats on Jacksonville’s d-line, so he has a relatively low floor. If he can stay healthy, expect him to compete for a Top 10 DE/EDR finish in 2021 and dynasty.
