Devin Bush Jr. #55, PIT LB
bio:
Devin Bush is a linebacker for Pittsburgh, drafted in the 1st round (#10 overall) out of Michigan in the 2019 draft. He was a Consensus All-American in 2018 and made the All-Rookie Team in 2019.
attributes:
An athletic, every down 3rd-year linebacker with playmaking ability in all phases of the game. He is a bit undersized, but he is an elite athlete. He has a very high College Prospect Score (CPS).
Age* | Height | Weight | 40 | SPARQ | CPS |
23.2 | 5’11” | 234 | 4.43 | 143 | 9.8 |
player grade:
He had an outstanding 2019 for a rookie, per PFF.com. He only played in 5 games in 2020, but he was off to an okay start and once again graded pretty evenly across the board, showing that he doesn’t have any major holes in his game.
Year | Overall | Run Defense | Pass Rush | Coverage |
2019 | 62.9 | 63.3 | 62.4 | 65.2 |
2020 | 59.7 | 61.1 | 61.2 | 57.7 |
injury:
Bush missed 12 games in 2020 due to an ACL tear. However, his injury was pretty early in the year, so he is expected to be ready for the beginning of the 2021 season.
tackles:
He broke 100 combined tackles in his rookie year, which is fairly rare for a rookie. He got off to a slow start in 2020 but only played in 5 games, which is not a large enough sample size to jump to any conclusions. However, I think he will be a high tackle accumulator in the future and throughout his career.
Year | SOLO | AST | COMBINED | A4GM* |
2019 | 72 | 37 | 109 | 109 |
2020 | 16 | 10 | 26 | 83 |
big plays:
Bush made a fair amount of big plays for a rookie in 2019. It’s hard to project going forward based on the limited sample size, but I believe he will end up being a high upside player in fantasy.
Year | SACK | STF | INT | PD | FF | FR |
2019 | 1.0 | 9 | 2 | 4 | 1 | 4 |
2020 | 1.0 | 0 | 0 | 3 | 0 | 0 |
contract:
Bush is still playing on his rookie deal. Pittsburgh has a 5th-year option available in 2023. He is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in 2024 (Age 26).
summary:
Devin Bush is already an every-down linebacker and makes plays all over the field. It’s always frustrating when a young player misses most of the previous season because it makes it really difficult to evaluate their progression. However, Bush is an elite talent, so expect him to compete for a Top 10 LB finish in 2021 and don’t be surprised to see him jump to the dynasty Top 5 next year.
