#98 Jeffery Simmons, TEN

bio:

Dynasty IDP Jeffery Simmons is IDPE’s #4 dynasty Defensive Tackle in 2021. Tennessee Defensive Tackle (DT) drafted in the 1st round (#19 overall) out of Mississippi State in the 2019 draft.

attributes:

A disciplined 2nd year defensive tackle. He didn’t participate in most of the combine events; his tape shows average athleticism, but adequate for his size. Simmons has a high end College Prospect Score (CPS), though some data points were estimated due to missing combine data.

player grades:

Simmons graded out as the #11 interior defender out of 125 qualified player in his 2nd year, per PFF.com. He graded out as the #14 run defender but pretty average in pass rushing in 2020. He took a step forward in his 2nd year and should take another step forward in 2021.

injury:

Missed 7 games in 2019 due to recovering from an ACL tear early in the season and a knee sprain later in the season.

tackles:

Simmons has broken 50 combined tackles each of his two years in the league (adjusted for injury). Therefore, he has a relatively high floor in fantasy, though a large portion of his tackles are of the lower scoring assisted tackles variety.

contract:

Simmons is still playing on his rookie contract. Tennessee has a 5th year option available, making him an unrestricted free agent in 2024.

summary:

Dynasty IDP Jeffery Simmons has been an okay fantasy asset so far in his career, primarily due to a pretty safe floor. His upside has been limited, but he did have 14 QB Hits in 2020. This suggests that we could see an increase in sacks in 2021, which he is going to need to break into the top 10 fantasy DTs for 2021. If he doesn’t take another step forward in 2021, expect his dynasty stock to begin slipping.
