Haason Reddick #43, CAR DE/EDR
bio:
Haason Reddick is a defensive end for Carolina, drafted in the 1st round (#13 overall) out of Temple by Arizona in the 2017 draft. He played cornerback, edge rusher, and off-ball linebacker in college. He started as an off-ball linebacker in Arizona. He signed with Carolina as an edge rusher in 2021 free agency after Arizona declined his fifth-year option.
attributes:
A versatile, athletic, 5th-year pass-rusher. He is undersized but an outstanding athlete for his position. He has a high College Prospect Score (CPS) despite some key inputs into the model being unavailable.
Age* | Height | Weight | 40 | Bench | CPS |
27.0 | 6’1″ | 237 | 4.52 | 24 | 4.8 |
player grade:
He was graded as the #25 Edge Defender in the league in 2020, per PFF.com. However, he is generally a poor run-defender and hit or miss as a pass-rusher.
Year | Overall | Run Defense | Pass Rush |
2017 | 54.0 | 65.5 | 53.2 |
2018 | 60.4 | 58.2 | 78.7 |
2019 | 40.2 | 57.1 | 65.0 |
2020 | 72.8 | 56.7 | 82.6 |
injury:
Reddick has not missed a game in his career.
tackles:
He provided at least 60 combined tackles in his first year as a full-time edge player. He has a decent floor for an edge defender based on a small sample size. Regression is likely in Carolina, where he is expected to play the edge full-time but isn’t guaranteed a full-time role. He has a shaky floor in fantasy.
Year | SOLO | AST | COMBINED |
2017 | 23 | 13 | 36 |
2018 | 53 | 27 | 80 |
2019 | 43 | 33 | 76 |
2020 | 43 | 20 | 63 |
big plays:
In his first full year as an edge defender, Reddick had a career year in sacks and stuffs (tackles for loss). Therefore, he has a high ceiling as a DE/EDR based on a small sample size.
Year | SACK | STF | INT | PD | FF | FR |
2017 | 2.5 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 0 |
2018 | 4.0 | 8 | 0 | 5 | 1 | 0 |
2019 | 1.0 | 6 | 0 | 6 | 0 | 1 |
2020 | 12.5 | 15 | 0 | 4 | 6 | 0 |
contract:
Reddick signed a 1 year, $6 million prove-it contract with Carolina. He is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in 2022 (Age 28).
summary:
Haason Reddick displayed high-end pass-rushing ability in 2020. However, the sample size as an edge defender is limited, and he will now join Carolina, who has Brian Burns and 2020 second-round pick Yetur Gross-Matos at the edge. He is also playing on a one-year contract, so it is fair to question whether he will have a full-time role in 2021. However, if he earns a full-time role, expect him to compete for a Top 10 DE/EDR finish in 2021 and dynasty.
